Keith Maree
CEO, Founder & Operational Director
Keith Maree is a co-founder of the Southern African Virtual School and CEO of
CampusNet (Pty) Ltd., an education distribution company specialising in distance
education and communication. He has diplomas in Business Management and Strategic
and Advanced Strategic Management.
After many years in various positions in the IT industry, he founded a technology
company and was at the forefront of introducing barcoding and automated meter reading
technologies into the Southern African marketplace. In addition he has experience of the
local recruitment industry and has run his own consulting and training company.
He is an authority on Distance, On-Line and ICT enhanced education, an area that he
has been active in for over 20 years. His expertise includes 3D immersive virtual
environments and he is regarded as one of the foremost thought leaders on the
implementation and use of both technology and virtual reality in the African education
landscape. He is often invited to speak and share his knowledge at both local and
international educational conferences.
He believes that lifelong learning needs to be instilled as a way of thinking that
emphasises learning in all stages of life and in which learning environment means both
the official education system and other surroundings in which people live and work.
He is passionate about innovation, entrepreneurship and the need to enlarge learning
opportunities and thinks that to prepare students for the disruptive and rapidly changing
markets of the 21st century, traditional paths of secondary and university education need
to be augmented with personalised training options enabled by technology.
