    Middle School

    Traditional Course Progression

for Grade Levels 6 to 8

Middle school students are required to complete

    the 12 Core Courses.

    • 3 MJ Language Arts

    • 3 MJ Math

    • 3 MJ Science

    • 3 MJ Social Studies

These core subjects are available with both regular and advanced options. Students selecting the advanced option will complete the additional advanced sections within the course. They must advise their teacher that the advanced option has been chosen prior to course commencement.

Electives are optional for middle school students, however we recommend that students complete an elective per grade, based on their special interest preference.

*The course progression recommendations outlined above represent traditional academic paths. Movement between regular and advanced paths, depending on academic ability, is permitted. Remember, there are many different options when choosing the best courses for you. Planning courses to suit your schedule requirements is important to academic success.

How to Schedule your Middle School Student with SAVS Full Time Option

SAVS is a year round school option that gives students the opportunity to earn their needed annual credits without overwhelming the student with a full load.

Below are some possible schedules for middle school students.

    4 CORE ONLY SCHEDULE

Middle school students may choose to do solely core subjects for each grade level; therefore, attempting 4 credits (courses) a year and traditionally work for 9 months.

    1. Language Arts

    2. Math

    3. Science

    4. History

Advisement: A typical course week is about 4–5 study hours a week per course, therefore, with 4 classes that means you may be at the computer studying 16–20 hours each week. This schedule leaves room for extra-curricular activities.

    4 CORE + 1 SCHEDULE

Middle school students may choose to do solely core subjects for each grade level; therefore, attempting 4 credits (courses) a year and traditionally work for 9 months. Later, the student will do 1 credit elective at an accelerated pace during the other 3 months of the year.

    1. Language Arts                                        1. Elective

    2. Math

    3. Science

    4. History

Advisement: A typical course week is about 4–5 study hours a week per course, therefore, with 4 classes that means you may be at the computer studying 16–20 hours each week. This schedule leaves room for extra-curricular activities.

    5 CREDIT LOAD

Middle school students attempting 5 credits a year may choose to work on 5 credits (courses) at one time. Students working on 5 credits will typically do schooling for 9 months.

    1. Language Arts

    2. Math

    3. Science

    4. History

    5. Elective

Advisement: A typical course week is about 4–5 study hours a week per course, therefore, with 5 classes that means you may be at the computer studying 20–25 hours each week. This schedule leaves little room for extra-curricular activities, represents a significant work load and needs to be selected with care.

Important Note: All courses chosen are available to a student for a 12 month period from the date of initial enrollment.
