There are, in fact, three different widely recognized types of American high school diplomas. SAVS only offers the College Prep Diploma.

A General Diploma, called a standard diploma in a few parts of the country, consists of 18 credits in general subject areas.

A Vo-ed Tech Diploma usually has 20+ credits, the extra credits come from taking extra vocational or technology classes.

A College Prep diploma comes in two types, college prep and college prep with honors. These diplomas have 22+ credits. The extra credits come from taking an extra credit of English, 2 credits of a foreign language, an extra credit in your major and usually an extra credit of science. An honors diploma is awarded if you have completed the honours segment of the courses and have a very high GPA.

American Tech schools will usually accept a general diploma. American Colleges prefer college prep diplomas, but if they have extra room, they sometimes accept students who have general diplomas and then assign them to a remedial class the first semester. A general diploma is just the basics.

How to Schedule your High School Student with SAVS Full Time Option

SAVS is a year round school option that gives homeschooling students the opportunity to earn their needed annual credits without overwhelming the student with a full load. We recommend no more than three to four courses at one time. Block schedules consisting of three courses taken at a time, followed by three additional courses upon completion are highly recommended for students taking six credits a year

Below are some possible schedules for student’s following the 24 Credit Home School Track, therefore attempting 6 credits a year.

3 + 3 COURSE SCHEDULE

High school students attempting 6 credits a year may choose to work on 3 credits at a time. Students who work on this schedule, typically follow the accelerated pace chart to reach their goals in 10 months

1st 5 months                                        2nd 5 months

1. English                                               1. Science

2. Math                                                   2. History

3. Elective                                              3. Elective

Advisement: A typical course week on accelerated pace is about 6–8 study hours a week per course, therefore, with 3 classes that means you may be at the computer studying 18–24 hours each week. This schedule leaves room for extra-curricular activities. Highly advised schedule for professional and training athletes.

4 + 2 COURSE SCHEDULE

High school students attempting 6 credits a year may choose to work on 4 credits (courses) for 10 months, and later do 2 credits at an accelerated pace during the remaining two months.

1st 10 months                                       Next 2 months

1. English                                               1. Elective

2. Math                                                   2. Elective

3. Science

4. History

Advisement: A typical course week is about 4–5 study hours a week per course. With 4 classes that means you may be at the computer studying 16 –20 hours each week. This schedule leaves room for extracurricular activities

Important Note: All courses chosen are available to a student for a 12 month period from the date of initial enrollment.
